Summary

Following the original Fear Effect, Eidos Interactive has once again teamed up with Kronos to develop a sequel that is an epic tale of horror and fantasy. Bizarrely subtitled, Retro Helix, Fear Effect 2 is yet another game that spans across a whopping four CD’s. Part of the reasoning behind this, other than its size, is the use of a technology called Motion FX 3D. This feature means than in-game sections are seamlessly blended with FMV backdrops to create a truly realistic and atmospheric environment.

Fear Effect 2 begins with a horrific introduction, showcasing a badly executed experiment that creates a terrifying creature. Soon after, you take on the role of Hana; one member of an infiltration group hired under mysterious circumstances. Not long into the actual game, everything goes wrong, and you’ll find yourself embarking on an adventure to save humanity along with the rest of the world. You will begin your epic challenge in a seemingly sparse aqueduct, with a visual approach that is not that far fetched from that in the Resident Evil series. Because you naturally thought ahead, you will find your inventory to be abundant with firepower and ammunition. As a consequence, you will begin combating some fearsome opponents almost immediately.

To give Fear Effect a more varied approach in terms of gameplay, this game also features complex puzzles that pose a considerable challenge. You must learn to master all features of the game if you are to succeed in this immersive story. Fear Effect 2 is not quite as polished as some other titles, but it is indeed frightening and will have you quaking in your boots for a long time.
