Six gamers, led by freelance games journalist, Kirsten Kearney, started playing Burnout Paradise at 10:00 am on Saturday 18th April, at the ESC Gaming Centre in Glasgow. They finished at 10:00 am on Sunday 19th April

This, you see, is an official world record for "the longest marathon playing a racing game" according to the Guinness Book of Records (Gamer's Edition).

"The record breaking feat served as a fundraiser for gaming charity GamesAid and nearly a hundred online gamers stepped in at different points to join the six record breakers during their 24 hours of continuous play", we're told - so something came of it.

24 hours playing a racing game for six people - sorry, 'nearly' 106 people? Doesn't seem a vast record to us. Two people playing Burnout Paradise non-stop for 24 hours, that's something.

What about, one person playing Virtua Tennis for 48 hours? Or a singleton playing World of Warcraft non-stop of a week... surely that's already been done.

Any other smashing record gaming attempts we should try? Tell us in the Forum.

It took me 48 hours straight to do the survival achievement in Dead Rising. All by myself. And I'm sure that's nothing compared to what other people have done.

48 hours continuous play? That's not a record, that's pychosis! :-) How on earth did you get through that?

cheers

24 hours, straight I can imagine... but a single-person, awake for 48 hours, unaided... and still able to concentrate, now that is quite some feat.

Cheers

I sincerely doubt this is actually a record. It's just that, with it being for Charity and with the adjudicators there, it gets classed as one. Most marathon gaming sessions happen without anyone else being around to witness and accredit them.

But I am disappointed the record setters placed the bar so low for themselves. If I could find 5 people who were up for it, I'd happily play Burnout Paradise non-stop for 24 hours.

In fact, lets call the Ghosts of Noss and Rorris Mc Whirter, grab a copy of Motorstorm: Pacific Rift and Tim, Gareth, Gavin, Mark, David and I can get ourselves into the record books.
