Pachter Retracts Sony Rip Off Statement

The moment Pachter made a mis-statement.
Remember analyst Michael Pachter telling Gamtrailers that $249 for a PSPGo was "ripping off" the consumer because the unit itself was probably cheaper to produce than the PSP-3000? He does it at about 04:55 into the video.

Well, he's found contrition in his new column.

"I sincerely regret the choice of words in my response to Geoff Keighley's question in last week's Bonus Round, where I said that Sony is "ripping off" the consumer by pricing the PSP Go at $249.99. I made a poor choice of words, and I do NOT think that Sony is doing anything nefarious in choosing their pricing strategy."

Pachter was actually echoing Keightley's "ripping off consumers" statement. That said, looking at the actual analysis, you've got to wonder how Sony can charge more for the Go than the 3000 despite $80 of UMD drive no longer being required. We'll sure they'll explain and it'll come down to recouping R&D with a non-mature unit going forward.
