PSP – More movies announced on UMD

Format sees escalating support.

The developed-for-PSP UMD (Universal Media Disc) has received a fresh wave of support for its movie-streaming push, with 12 new titles being announced by Lions Gate Entertainment.

The new batch of UMD's, which includes Saw, House of the Dead, Total Recall, Rambo: First Blood and Open Water, will be released in North America in mid-April, with a European roll-out expected in the summer.

"Lions Gate has embraced each new viable technological advancement in the home entertainment arena as it has appeared on the horizon," company President Steve Beeks stated. "The PSP is truly an incredible machine that will quickly become a popular format with which to enjoy filmed entertainment...From the time it was initially announced, we were preparing for ways we could mileage our extensive library to deliver content for the platform."

As you may be aware, the PSP’s bespoke media disc has seen an increasing level of interest from the movie sector, and - as long as it remains uncracked - will prove a valuable revenue stream for the loss-leading portable games machine.

Wow. House of the Dead, huh? Amazing film. Truly astonishing.

That makes my taking the piss out of the impossible task of getting companies to make UMD films all the less sarcastic...

Come on now, House of the Dead inspires the sight of someone pulling the trigger of a gun pointed at their display unit of choice, eager not to let the foulness consume them. It is a truly magical thing. One can only hope the UMD is destroyed too, so that nobody else has to suffer! (You're fired - Ed.)

Who the f**k is this "Ed", and why the f**k does he keep interjecting while people write? It's really f**king annoying. F**k.

On topic. Yeah. UMD. Doomed. A whole bevy of s**t films for the format makes it impossible to resist the urge to buy a PSP for the movie playing angle.

Maybe UMD stands for "Ultimately, Media Doomed"? Heh.

Back to work...

Haven't you worked it out yet? It's Sony's little joke:

UMD = Ultimate Media Dominance

I'd say that the film you are gonna see are only gonna be aimed at males. No really depth at all. All action flicks and while I love that it defeats the whle point Sony are trying to make.

This shows the gulf between DS and PSP. DS has games like Nintendogs, Wario Ware etc that can bring in the amles and females but Sony have nothing similar for PSP.
