Allard: Xenon User Interface, Specs and Live II to Show Tonight

Console named by top brass – pre-GDC chatter reveals plans.

J Allard becomes the first Microsoft executive to go on record to name the Xbox 2 Xenon, with an interview captured the night before the Games Developers Conference in San Francisco outlining the key points of tomorrow’s keynote address.

Speaking to Major Nelson following a warm-up rehearsal, Allard said, “We’re really going to focus on thought leadership. It’s not really a news conference right? It’s a conference for the development community as we prepare for the next generation of console gaming and the next generation of Windows gaming. We really want to set the tone for where the future is going.”

So what will be seen tonight? “Well,” said Allard, “Were going to show a little bit of leg. We have thought about how best to catalyse some of our thoughts, so we’re going to show a little bit of what the Xenon user interface might look like, we’re going to talk a little bit about the specs just a little bit, and we're going to talk about online as well, and where we see the future of Live.”

And on Live: “We’re just getting to the point right now where the Internet is showing us what its potential truly is. When you look at what the Internet has achieved for computing and communications and Podcasting is a great example of that. We’re going to take all of these concepts and bring them into gaming.”

And this interview confirms SPOnG’s exclusive revelation that the new Xbox, now with its confirmed Xenon name, will be shown at GDC in more significant form than was initially thought.

We’ll bring you updates on Allard’s address tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Have you read the new features of X-BOX LIVE?
I dont buy it, why dont they start to use it now with X-BOX 1?

Its like an upgrade of the Mesenger 1,2 to 1,3.

I hope they reveal something new in a near time

Kind of like Sony want to own your LIFE.

Your TV, stereo, PET... your travelling goods such as your portable DVD player, games machine, music player...

Your kitchen, your alarm clock, your computer, your laptop, your palmtop...

Your mobile phone, your television viewing through sponsorship, your cinema viewing, your music artists...

Seriously, MS bashing has got old. Dominating 2 markets? Lots of companies do. Owning everything? Hmm. Quit the "Sony! Sony! Rarara!" and look around. What has ANY company done for you lately? They're ALL bad. At least one of them gives a massive percentage to cancer research every year, as well as countless other charities, AND even speak up for the abolition of world debt! When was the last time you saw a Sony guy in the paper? When was the last time you heard Panasonic donation to the DEC to help tsunami victims?

Sometimes, i think you people are blind to the wider world.
