Midway Shows PSP Triple Blow
Midway is somewhat unsurprisingly throwing its weight behind Sony’s gloriously evil PSP handheld, announcing support from three of its key franchises.

Due to go on show at this year’s Electronics Entertainment Expo (which kicks off next Wednesday, don’t forget!) are Mortal Kombat PSP, Midway Arcade Treasures PSP and NBA Ballers PSP. All are tentatively titled right now but are well into production.

Mortal Kombat is said to be identical to the console versions and is ported - as are all of the games - from PSP-friendly PlayStation 2 code. Interestingly, all will make use of the PSP’s natty Wi-Fi capabilities, with Arcade Treasures promising 16 multiplayer games, a mouth-watering prospect indeed. Four-player Gauntlet arcade, anyone?

In fact, the line up for Arcade Treasures reads as follows: Spy Hunter, Sinistar, Defender, Paperboy, 720, Klax, Joust, Marble Madness, Toobin', Rampage, Gauntlet (4-player), Rampart, Wizard of Wor, Xybots, Championship Sprint, Arch Rivals, Cyberball 2072, Xenophobe, Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, and Mortal Kombat 3.

A lush selection indeed. All games are slated for release later this year.

Mortal Kombat on the go. Suprised Midway have actually beat Capcom onto the PSP properly. Darkstalkers is good but what we really wanted was 3rd Strike or a Street Fighter Alpha 3 port.

So where the hell is Ready to Rumble III, Midway? I'm sure people would rather have that instead of flogging these classics.

a handheld arcade perfect mortal kombat would be nice. the game gear one was a lot of fun I remember (once you knew the blood code)
but why are there so many ports being anounced?
even if most of them sound alright.
I'm hoping there will be a lot of cool (NEW) stuff at E3 next week

I fail to see how any software announcement by Midway could be considered a "blow". Average games all round, really; yes, even MK.

I wonder how Midway will mess it up. :-)

Oh, wait.. straight porting the same exact code from a 128-bit CPU to the PSP's 64-Bit MIPS R4000.... that's not so bad.. it might only a LITTLE lagged or flakey. I mean, after all, it's like downporting a game that was coded for the Game Cube down to a system that has a CPU a few steps down from the N64. :-P

Oh, well. Maybe they'll publish new titles on other handhelds. Wouldn't you want a Touchality? :-P Slice up your opponent with the stylus, or drag/stretch parts of them.
