Xbox 360: First-Party Peripherals and Pricing Revealed - Hidden Cost Row Flares

Well, the outrage for the X360 is probably caused of the luxury of a HDD in the Xbox and its lost in the core package. Or ...Xbox-fans are spoiled brats in that regard.

Personally i would go for the delux version because you get more worth your money, getting a core version is probably the biggest scam ever, after 2 years half the games won't work on your HDD-less X360 and the loading times with HD-textures will be very tedious (again with a HDDless one).

At least half of that list should be included with the core one at a $ 299 price, now that's a deal.

Same system but two packages. think it's a sweet move to nclude the hard drive but they should have just offered a 10gb drive with the lesser system. At the moment the cheapo pack looks like a reason to sell over priced accessories to us. Can you all tell me how many people previously bought Xbox memory cards? Very few I'm sure.

Why not give people a smaller hard drive or a damn memory card free with the cheap pack so they can get gaming out of the box? They shouldn't have to shell out for a game and then cards just to bloody save. Sure I know more money can be made in this way but isn't a memory card more important gaming need than damn face plate? Which would you rather have at launch if you opt for the cheap pack?

In truth the cheap pack is a well designed kind of Decoy Octopus so you end up buying the expensive pack anyways. A cunning piece of marketing no less but I won't buying for a while, if I do it will have to be that pricey pack because I don't want to fiddle with more memory cards. How many of those damn card things do I own now?

On a more positive note 360 is looking okay, I'm just waiting to see the RRP on those 360 games....lol. If it's over £40 per game I might have to do a rethink.

As someone who works retail this is an incredibly stupid decision. Despite it being smarter to buy the more expensive console average joe consumer won't know the difference and average joe retail associate won't have a clue about any next-gen platform.

This is Microsoft's biggest mistake and makes waiting to get an X-Box during the PS3 launch a much smarter idea. I'd rather wait the 9-10 months instead of buying a stupidly priced system.

Though I had no plans on buying a PS3 Sony has a great opportunity to add some kind of hard drive standard since the system isn't finalized, which would completely overpower the 360 since they can unload code on the drive instead of the RAM.

Also if they later decide to make the drive standard then the hardcore that adopted early and were left with core systems cuz the expensive ones were sold out will feel like they were screwed. Now I think J Allard is the dickhead that everyone has been calling him.

I'm sure the main point of the "Core" pack is to claim that they have launched at a lower price point.

Come PS3 launch time, there is a good chance that the Core pack will drop from £210 to £170-£180. If Sony launch the PS3 at the traditional £300 price point, they are going to be up against it. The clueless parent factor will hit and the 360 stands a good chance at picking up the higher sales rate.

Microsoft don't care that much that people who buy the cheaper pack have to upgrade, they already have bought a 360. This means they are more likely to just upgrade than shell out on a PS3 and, more importantly, MS will have higher than otherwise hardware sales figures to point to.

Also the price of that add-on hard drive is pulling the piss. 20 GB for £70?? You, as an individual without bulk discount, can easily get a 40 GB Seagate Barracuda for £35 or a 20 GB 2.5" Seagate Momentus for slightly less than £33. Slap on a case around it for, let's be generous, £10. How the F do they get to £70??

Most of your arguement is objective. You may not want to shell out $50-60 bucks (someone else do the Ueroeorrooo,... oreo conversion for me) for the top tier PGR3 and somewhat promising Perfect Dark Zero (neither do I honestly), but the games do look good. We'll probably see Madden 06, NBA Live 06, some new iteration of SSX, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and some other interesting titles at the launch. The headset is wired SO-FAR. I'm sure there's going to be a wireless version coming too. it's f**kin' infared and rf-ed and bluetoothed and richoceted and modulated like a muthafucker. Someone has one coming out soon. And besides, as long as the controller cord is wired and your not a clumsy twit, the headset doesn't need to be wireless. And the controllers are wi-fi. But I do a agree that not having a wireless transmitter inside the system is dumb, mostly because Allard and the rest of the get-a-long gang have been banging into our heads that the system is going to be the future and how we all need this thing as our secondary brain to do everything for us. But if we need to buy silly perpherials to do the s**t Allard TOLD us it would do out of the box, I'm gonna piss in his mouth when he bends down to tie his shoes and when he opens his mouth agasp at my massive schwang..., BAM! Right in the food hole, 2 liters of golden goodness. That'll teach him to f**k around with us consumers.

As for my two cents on the pricing, IDIOTIC! But as some people have pointed out, it is a good move for the s**tty ethics imbued team that is Microsoft. It creates two classes of gamers, the hardcore or rich f**ks who can afford/will shell out the higher price and all the "necessary" accessories and the casual or less fortunate gamers who can't afford/won't shell out for the accessories. We're gonna have console inadaquecy issues in the forums. My console has more RAM than you, my console has a speedier hard drive, my console gives better hummers! And what of the user created content or streaming to the drive!? Are we gonna have games that have REQUIREMENTS listed on the back!? Hmmmm..., it seems Halo 3 needs a 100 Terrabyte drive, more RAM, and my soul to play correctly. Well I guess I have no choice. Oh and that's funny about Halo, it probably will need a hard drive if it's gonna use it's tricks to preload the game again.

I'm looking forward to Capcom's Dead Rising because I love zombie style games.

It japanese games that will have me buy a 360 but I know the PS3 will have more of what I like so I'll end up buying all three consoles.

I'm pretty sure the cheaper version is mostly an illusion, everyone is gonna want a hard drive...so as you say clever move.

Personally I likve the fact that it has no internal Wi-Fi, this means that you can use whatever you want, wether it be 11, 54, or n or whatever they come out with next week. Also, I don't run any Wi-Fi, I don't want it right now. (It'd suck here any way, too many stone walls) Got a Linky Wireless Router with the Wireless disabled and the antennas pulled, only bought the wireless becasue the ass at the store told me they had the Wired in stock, when I show up he offered me Wireless for same price, and I didn't feel like driving the half-hour to the nearest other retailer. Did I crawl through nasty insulation running Cat 5 so I could be forced to subsidize the Wi-Fi in YOUR console?

amen. I went through the hassle of running cat 5 to all of my tvs so that I have mobility AND a good connection anywhere in my house. I always prefer hard wired connections over wi-fi anyway.
