GTA: Liberty City Stories: Movies, Screens, Weird Viral Stuff, More…

Rockstar shows portable hand.

Posted by Staff
You might not know this, but before Grand Theft Auto 3, Take 2 and subsidiary Rockstar Games were almost out of business. The vultures were circling the firm and it was widely predicted that the end would come within six months.

Then the biggest game franchise in the world was born and the rest, as they say, is history. As to how long the game-buying public’s obsession with Rockstar’s super-violent crime spree, free-roaming action RPG (and GTA is an RPG – you just pretend it isn’t) is anyone’s guess, though it’s sure to outlast the release of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, the PSP-exclusive spin-off slated to hit store shelves on October 5.

Anyway, enough babbling. Liberty City Stories is a contemporary Italian mobster romp and, well, is a new Grand Theft Auto game, just for your PSP this time around. We are still awaiting the spec sheet from Rockstar detailing the game in all its glory, but we did stumble across this site for the game which features a new trailer and a load of Bee-Loving viral stuff.

One point of note is that LCS is built from the ground up using a completely new game engine. For the first time in the contemporary life of Grand Theft Auto, no Renderware technology was employed. Rockstar also mentioned that it was amongst the first developers to take receipt of a PSP development kit, and has been coding its crime romp for over two years.

Have a look here for instance, or here. Strange stuff, we’re sure you’ll agree. All the images thus far released from LCS can be seen to the right of this news piece, so peruse at your leisure, assuming of course that you’re over 18 years of age. Or at least capable of convincing a webpage that you are.

I think your resizing has introduces some some magic anti-aliasing tech that the DS doesn't have. I reckon it might look a little more like this...

It doesn't look too bad for PSP. Just wonder what effect all that possible hardcore dialogue is gonna have on the brains of those riding my bus when I crank up my PSPs volume.

Oh yeah that's right, shock and awe all the old grannies onboard. LOL, don't hit me with that umbrella Miss Brady.

Nice to see Spong's DS development coming along nicely :P

GTA looks alright but I'm wondering why none of the pics look liike in game pics. I mean there's no health/stars/weapon/money icons in there.
So I'm hopng for it to be a bit unlike GTA 3. it looks like it but I hope it's not. I loved GTA 3 but I think it'd be mind numbingly dull on a handheld. You'd get from Liberty Heights to bellvue via the tunnel and the battery would run out.

It's always been the same with GTA games since III. The screens released before the game debuts are in-game engine, but minus the HUD. Check out the screenshots on SPOnG, you can see the ones that are PR shots and the ones we captured ourselves.

For the sake of your battery, and everyone else on the bus (regardless of what you are playing), try these!
